KCPP now routinely X-rays the paws of all declawed cats. Can you imagine walking every step on shards of glass? That’s what these cats were feeling. They looked for reasons behind that behavior and found that many of these cats had bone fragments in their paws as leftovers from declaw procedures that were causing t hem extensive pain. I volunteer at KC Pet Project, one of the largest no-kill open admissions shelters in the country. Some of these cats have behavior problems and/or litter box issues which are likely reasons for their surrender in the first place. Shelters all over the country are seeing more older owner surrender declawed cats coming their way. X-Rays Tell the Story !! Many cat parents are devastated once they have learned what they put their beloved felines through, they were told declawing ''is a simple surgery'' ''laser declaws are practically pain free'' ''you need to declaw with the spay/neuter'' ''you will be back when your furniture is ruined'' ''we have a spay/neuter declaw package'' The good news is many veterinarians have stopped declawing. No matter what price you pay or what method is used, declawing will always remain a barbaric cruel hate attack on a once healthy kitty. Declawing is a billion dollar industry that benefits veterinarians nationwide. Declawing a cat is the equivalent of cutting all ten fingers of a human's hand at the first knuckle. Veterinarians do not explain the procedure and sugarcoat the procedure because profits are more important. There are many declawed cats that have complications, they are usually dumped or euthanized. There are studies from ethical veterinarians that prove all declawed cats live in pain in the Journal of Feline Medicine & Surgery. Cat parents unfortunately believed this misleading information because there is no humane way to amputate bone. An AVMA member, Misener of Holley Animal Hospital, started declawing in 1952, and received accolades for ''developing a humane procedure to declaw cats''. Cats are known to hide pain, if they show pain, they become prey.
